Ridhi, How Do I Style a Curtain?
Box, American, Ripple, Pencil…so many terms but what do they mean? Of course, there are more than just these pleats but I couldn’t possibly highlight them all so I picked the more popular ones! The fall of a curtain adds an important detail to the house, helping complete the look. Let’s get into it.
Box pleat – Gives a more formal look and has a bulky look when gathered on the side of the window. This pleat covers the window the most, compared to other pleats.
American Pleat – Versatile and usually a safe bet when you aren’t sure what to do. It’s what I have at my house too! 😊
Ripple Pleat – As the name suggests, it creates a ripple at the bottom and top of the curtain giving a wave like look. AMAZING for double height ceilings as it has a beautiful fall! Just remember to keep enough space in the pelmet (6” per curtain).
Pencil Pleat – Classic look and a good option if you plan on tying it on the side with a curtain tieback. It gives a dramatic look.
What pleat do you like? Let’s talk about in comments below.
